After almost a week in Nelson and surrounding area, we headed south towards Kaikoura. En route we took a little detour to Duncan Bay within the Malborough Sounds. This village was about 30 kms off the highway, reached through farmlands, then climbing over a bush-clad hill and dropping down to a hamlet. It was a gorgeous and peaceful spot with turquoise waters of the Tennyson Inlet. Here we walked part of the famous Nydia Track towards Pipi Beach. The pictures speak for themselves...

We spent some time with a couple of young boys fishing for spotties. J helped out a little boy with his "birds nest" on his fish rod (it reminded him of being in Llangrannog, Wales)!
Back on the main road we had a quick stop at Havelock, not more than a thin ribbon of pubs and resturants.
Later that afternoon we arrived in Blenheim, a fairly sleepy town surrounded by some of the most highly regarded vineyards in the land - The Marlborough wine country. This was an overnight stop en route to Kaikoura.
