A new career already??
From A journey of a thousand miles begins today!! in Marrakech, Morocco on Nov 08 '06
Ok this is a long one…. If you're not into my lengthly descriptions - sorry!!
First night in Marrakech, fresh from a relaxing massage and sauna, I came back to the room to see our eloquent president admit defeat and announce the long overdue change with Rumsfeld. Quite a perfect beginning to what is shaping up to a perfect evening in Marrakech. Temp is good so I walk to find a restaurant just inside the walls of Djemaa al Fna (circus like market) who gladly accommodated my vegetarian request for dinner. First course is 3 kinds of olives with accompanying sauces. 2nd course: Oh My Mohammed, 6 small plates of amazing vegs… Maria would fall over… Tapas style Moroccan!! Shaved carrots in rose water – can you taste it?? The most delicious chick peas in a tomato oil sauce – Oh Dara, you would be trying to copy this!! But the roasted eggplant in whatever that sauce was – Delish!!! And now there is another small plate filled with small little fried stuffed tostada looking things topped with powdered sugar YUM O!!
It just gets better (sorry if I’m boring you….) I’m seriously considering coming back tomorrow night – and I’m not one to repeat if I don’t have to. It’s fun though; I think people around me think I’m a food writer… Or maybe I’m secretly pretending to be one…
OK – Next the most beautiful heaping plate of cous cous topped with chickpeas, carrots, eggplant and squash with a light broth for a sauce. So much food – So good!!
With traditional Moroccan musicians playing for me, my belly so completely satisfied and my taste buds doing the happy dance I will retire for the evening. At 5:00 am here it’s Steve’s b/day and I want to be the first to wish him a happy one!!
Oops – who knew there could possibly be more; Fruit. A beautiful fruit plate or oranges, apples and figs and then of course another plate of sweets, cookies and coconut macaroons. (Sorry mom – totally wasted on me)
I’m sure there is not a high demand for food writing but it may just be my next (short-lived) career among others. As I make my way thru the snake charmers, street musicians and “healers” I bid you a good night.
Right after I finish my mint tea…..
