Adelaide and then there's ... Work and a great life saving challenge and competition!!!!
From Queensland with a slight work trip to Adelaide in Adelaide, Australia on Jul 17 '06
Not much to say here in Adelaide apart from the sometimes dreaded four letter word ... you guessed it ... work!
Nathan and I had two rather different experiences here in Adelaide! I had a 2 day conference and Nathan was here for the Australasian Road Rescue Challenge 2006!
Work and getting hungover ...Nice combination!!! =P
Held at the Wayville Showgrounds, 23 teams took part in a series of scenarios involving road accident rescue where teams are to extract a road victim from a crashed/crumpled car body within a period of 20 minutes, where the victim is either a dummy or acting casualty (live person).
During the time we weren't at the conference or the competition we were off around the city looking around at the many sights such as Rundle Mall (Very similar to Perth City Shopping), Glenelg - sightseers centre, or the city nightlife of pubs, clubs and very nice restaurants.
One of the first stops I made after my conference was in popular Glenelg. Wow, this area of Adelaide is stunning, with its beautiful beaches and shopping! Glenelg is what every beach side suburb should be! Take a stroll down the pristine clean white beaches and enjoy the sunshine or go for a swim in the blue water or enjoy the many shopping outlets, food and wine or visit the Museum. A shame I couldnt stay longer!
Adelaide Zoo is another stop to make in Adelaide as everything here seems to be within walking distance making nearly every attraction in the city possible in a day. This zoo is stunning with its many animals and beautiful garden design. See the blue and gold macaw and witness their beauty and colour in the free flight demonstration, its amazing how close they fly to you! One place the family and kids will enjoy! I know I did...even if it was by myself that day!
Night life in Adelaide is just as fun and full of excitement as everyone here knows how to have a good time. (Just lines of people - and long ones too) Although, I can't say getting rather very tipsy then getting home at 3am to catch a bus, for a 6am tour to Kanagroo Island is much fun =P, only to end up with a mildly bad headache and being hungover the next morning and miss your bus lol but hey it's the holidays and my conference was over - so what the heck lol! (Dizzy spells afterwards though =P)
Ah well all round great fun and the staff are fantastic at the Mercure Grosvenor Hotel, where we all stayed. Great fun in and around the city if you like the night life. Walk down and around Rundle Mall and adjoining streets to the casino, pubs and clubs and other entertainment venues, you'll most probably want to go out every night and not want to come home. I sure didn't haha.
Well after that night it was off to Kangaroo Island for a day (Hung over - but all good!) before returning to Adelaide for two days, watching the presentations for the RAR Challenge (see Review). I had lost my apetite now, (great) but it was now time for the award ceremony for the RAR Challenge, Nathan and the team had participated in all weekend...fantastic job they did too! Held at the Hyatt Hotel, the night was very enjoyable with three young violinists doing their thing whilst we watched in amazement, awesome talent these girls had!
Well we didn't win but it was a great experience for the guys and we certainly gained a lot of experience and learnt a lot from it. Makes you understand just what the fire fighters and rescuers see and go through when trying to save a crash victims life in a real life situation.
Next morning we did a bit of souvenir shopping as you do before heading home to go back to Perth where we would all part paths yet again to return home. The opals here are superb!!!
I had such a great time...I didnt want to come back!!! But now back to reality I can't wait to go travelling again and neither can Nathan! Next City or destination Los Angeles to visit Universal Studios! When that will be no-one knows, but eventually...a trip in the making!
Bye for now =)
