Rocky Mountain High
From Looking for America in Denver, United States on Aug 16 '06
We arrived in Denver today after a short drive south. First stop (after the stadiums) was the world-famous Casa Bonita restaurant. We had read about this place in one of our travel books, and knew we had to check it out. Built in 1973 and set back (surprisingly) in a strip shopping center, it's a Mexican restaurant with a twist. From cowboys and indians gun fights to kids shows, indoor arcade and cave to 30-foot indoor cliff divers, it's certainly a sight to see! Food was average, but the experience was great. At 52,000 square feet, the restaurant itself is the largest in the western hemisphere.

After lunch, we drove out to Red Rocks Amphitheater, a natural rock formation that has been turned into the place to perform in Denver. Zeppelin, the Stones, Willie Nelson -- everyone has played here! We decided to brave the hike down the hundred stairs of the outdoor seating to the stage...no small feat at that elevation! At the time, there were no big names on stage, but the area was full of fitness fanatics working out, running up and down the stairs, and basically just wearing us out watching them. It was time to find a hotel and relax.
We got a great deal (honeymooner's special!) and went to bed.
