Shopping for a shalwar kameez

Two days to go and I wanted to buy another shalwar kameez, the comfortable pyjama-like two-piece worn by many younger Indian girls, and so comfortable.

The same driver as the one I had yesterday, my last one went home for holi after delivering me in Jaipur. This one could speak more English and appeared to be more intelligent. On the 230km trip from Delhi to Agra in the state of ? we had to pass through three tolls, a slow process, a mystery why. At one of them I saw a few men with gorillas and monkeys on ropes – expecting money from tourists. It’s terrible what we tourists/travellers do with our journeying and the impact it has on people and nature, but I won’t go into that here.

Agra is a pretty awful place, there but for the Taj Mahal think I. It was once a booming industrial area but nowadays with the Taj being a UNESCO monument and all that goes with it – cut down on pollution etc, many people are out of work.

In the afternoon I was driven 45 km out of town to Fatephur Sikri, a huge fort on a dusty hill surrounded by a large area of ruins, the city must have been huge.
