Bohemian country
From Steve, Ken, and Darren's eurotrip! in Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic on Sep 25 '06
After the crowded streets of Prague we hopped onto a train and headed for the middle of nowhere known as Cesky Krumlov. Indeed it is far from anything really, but well worth the trip even if you have to deal with a standard two car train that doesnt do mroe then 35 km per hour. Take the bus if your heading there, cheaper and quicker. Soo, heading into a city that is UNESCO protected means trying not to blow up any buildings or someone might get mad that you ruined the great architechture that can no longer be changed drastictly due to its protection. Ok, seriously , it is protected and thats a good thing as the entire city seems to still be in the midievil time frame. Walking down from the train station you get a breathe taking view of the entire city and the vlata river which flows through it. I know that after a while all the old buildings begin to seem the same but honestly this place is quite different, you feel as though you traveled back in time , asides from the typical tourist booths giving unneccary directions as everything is so close. Not so terribly much to do but enjoy the city as you walk around but trust me thats all you need to do to have a good time. We were needing some down time so this spot suited perfect to get away from the big cities. Grab a local beer with a rediculously long name and find a quite bench on the river and just relax for a while and soak in the surrondings. Bascially this is what we ended up doing and it helped recharge our batteries quite well, fed the ducks, took in the sun and sipped on increbibly cheap beer. The water ended up being too cold to grab a inner tube and float down the river for an afternoon but if you get the chance i think it would be a blast! On our final day we booked an outdoor tour through one the the travel places to take us out fishing, four wheeling and horse back riding for the day. Now, we didnt really knwo what to expect as we were in the Czech rep. but still it was different but better then what we expected. Driving is a dangerous thing and it wasnt unike a 40 min rollercoster ride out to the ranch. Got out and were greeted by the owner and his two MASSIVE dogs, i mean these thigns could have eaten me alive if i so much as stepped on there toe. Turns out he used to be in the army (i think) but he now owns a ranch and guides for deer hunting, and raises carp and salmon in 4 different ponds. I know thats terrible grammer but im not worried so ya shouldnt either *wink* Very friendly people, found out i knew how to fly fish and hurried off to get a fly rod for me so i could finally try to land a salmon on the fly as some of you may know i have been trying to do without success back home. Needless to say i was like a lil kid on christmas morning as he handed me the rod. Ironically though, steve and kenneth were the only ones able to land a salmon with the fly rod leaving me heartbroken until after about an hour of casting a big ol carp decides he likes my style (either that or he felt bad for me ) and took my fly. For a carp he was small, but for me it was hooking into solid gold! Landing a second right afterwards was just icing on the cake...the salmonless cake...haha ohh well ill get one some day. While they prepared the salmon that was caught we hopped on the four wheelers and headed out for an hour or so of blasting around through the hills and woodlines of the behemian backcountry. Ate a delicous slamon dinner and then heading over to hop onto the biggest horse ive ever seen. After what seemed liek climbing everest we trotted aroudn through woods and feilds over loooking the town of cesky krumlov as the sun settled behind the surrounding hills. Our time open and closed smoothly and quitely as we had hoped and our thoughts turned towards the mountains of austria.
