Thursday, the third day of our field trip, we took a bus to Melk, Austria which is home to the Stift Melk, or Melk Monastery. We took a guided tour of the beautiful building, learning about the influence of Catholicism and the life of the monks. The monastery was founded in 1085 by the Benediction monks and still exists today, with the addition of the museum portion. It was particularly interesting to learn about fresco painting and to actually see a few examples on the ceilings. After the tour, we headed back to Vienna and had the afternoon at leisure. I am somewhat embarrassed to say that instead of continuing to explore Vienna, I again ended up going to the sauna and resting for the majority of the afternoon as I was still not feeling very well. However, that evening I felt a lot better and ended up going out into the city with several of my friends. We were going to go to a popular local club, but circumstances didn’t work out. However, we still had a fabulous evening!
Interesting to learn about fresco painting
