I hitched to Vimy from Dieppe to go visit the  War Memorial,  but  when I got there it was raining heavily, so the man who had already driven 20 km out of his way drove an extra 5 km to bring me to the town of Vimy!

three months previous, I was in Revelstoke watching a documentary on the national Canadian Television, during the time when they were comemorating the 90 years of

the Vimy Ridge with the queen visiting, and the prime minister of Canada ect.

well this Documentary, was talking about this old man who was retired and who would go find and  drive the Canadian visitors from the train station which was about five kilometers from the monument!

so to get back to the Vimy story, The man was driving me in town when all of a sudden from the corner of the eyes I spoted that very same man standing outside talking with his neighbor! I ran outside the car In the poring rain walked strait to

the man and asked" are you the man I saw on television in Canada!"

His response was a Calm and Colleted, " yes that`s me, you need a place to stay young man!

he fixed me up some dinner and the next day showed me around vimy and he even introduced me to the guides who then gave me a private tour of Vimy!

My husband and I met him too, shortly before you did it seems, it was July 2, 2007. He picked us up at the train station and took us to the memorial and back to his house afterward for some tea and showed us some of his maps and old newspaper clippings. I'm glad to see you are writing about him because he's a pretty generous and cool guy.
