Waiting for the Bus to Quito
From My Trip Through South America in Aguas Verdes, Peru on Mar 09 '06
I am technically in Ecuador although I have not yet been stamped with the official entry stamp. The border area is pretty boring and I was under the impression that there were riots or something on Peruvian side, so I had to pay a pair of guys $60 to get across the border without being "robbed or killed." I still haven't figured out if there is any truth to that or not, but there is nothing in the news about it. I did see some protestors and such, but I thought the $60 was a tad exorbant, and they even started bargaining at $100!!! I still have a raw feeling in my stomach that I was taken, but at least I am in Ecuador where it is "mas tranquilo" and have yet to be robbed or killed. Going back across the border the other way should be interesting, but right now I am enjoying the cool air of the A/C at the internet cafe.
