Portland is a great place to be, with trees and mountains in sight no matter where you are in the city. We took advantage of this by celebrating the move/arrival of Tracy and Han over a few patio martinis, while Portland’s farmer’s market and 1st Thursday activities were going on within earshot. The music was dodgy, but at least people were out and about having a good time. It was a lovely, albeit one night, visit. And no matter what Debbie says- at least our hotel was close to the freeway and I didn’t get lost getting us out of town the next day.

Debbie says:

After a decent amount of time driving around downtown Portland looking for a hotel with a vacancy we were lucky enough to get a smoking room in the Holiday Inn. You might think that I would be quite excited about having a smoking room but whoever reckoned that all smokers want to sleep in a room that stinks like every person who has ever stayed in it chain-smoked 100 Marlboro’s a day and wants the window “fixed” so it can’t be opened is wrong. I’m not one of the “close the door, the smoke’s getting out” smokers, thanks very much. Anyway…. We’re in Portland for one night to see Tracy and Han, who flew in from Amsterdam the day before. They were both a little bit jet-lagged but martini’s, beer, wine and more beer sorted them right out. Hard-core. Had an excellent night. “Hit me.”
