Did Joe really score a goal?
From Summer voyage... in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Jun 25 '06
Dear friends,
After celebrating the festival of St. John in Salvador, Joe and I headed on a catamaran to an island in the bay. We headed to Morro de Sao Paolo to lie on the beach again. After a long voyage, three hours in total, we arrived in town where the main road is made of sand and doesn´t have a name. There are no cars. We had made friends in Salvador with two women, Ruth and Mary, from England who also happened to be on our catamaran. Of course, they are traveling for a year.
After sucking wind, and watching them put on a dribbling display, I exited the game
The next day, Joe and I decided we would go horse-back riding again because we enjoyed it so much in Patanal. It wasn´t so fun on the beach. For one, the horses are not trained to respond to us and only respond to their owner as he chases after them with his horse and a stick. Joe really didn´t enjoy the ride because he was bouncing around on his butt as his horse galloped.
After watching Brazil beat Ghana, we decided to become more active. By the way, everything in Brazil closes when the game is on. Instead of working, everyone watches the game. Watching world cup matches everyday made me fondly remember the days when I played, so I bought a ball for us to use on the beach. Of course, some Brazilian kids wanted to play, and so we were part of a 3 on 3 barefeet futbol match on the beach. Boy, we (Americans) will never compete with the Brazilians. Not only were they were great players but after we were worn out they kept playing. With one of them as a keeper, they played in the water, practicing diving stops. Then they practiced one touching the ball to each other on the wet sand. Then they practiced penalty kicks. Most of the children play futbol all the time. The 14 to 16 years old boys we played against were good sports as well. After sucking wind, and watching them put on a dribbling display, I exited the game early because my tender feet were red and swelling. Joe somehow scored a goal later in the game. I think they wanted to encourage him. They were fun to play with, and I´m sure that they are few of millions of kids in Brazil who play all the time. Next crucial match is Saturday with Brazil versus France.
yours,
asit
