Back To Bogota
From World Trip Cont... (Colombia) in Bogota, Colombia on Jun 24 '06
Sunday, June 25 I woke up this morning in San Gil, and caught a bus to Bogota, a 7 hour trip. Another last minute decision. I wanted to go to another town between San Gil and Bogota, but in the end I decided that it is best to get to Bogota and not rush another town in the middle. I will most likely go to Villa De Leyva when I return to Bogota. On the bus I met Columbian guy who is also an engineer and spoke great english. This was quite a relief after being with people who only spoke Spanish for the past week. When we arrived in Bogota I took a taxi to my hotel and Samir and I decided to meet the next day, so he could take me around the city. When I arrived at my hotel it was around 9pm, and the guy greeting my taxi saying that there wasn't a single When I arrived finally at my hotel at 9pm, the guy at the door said, no rooms, absolutely not one. Excuse me, I made a reservation... let me check... and finally after some haggling and seeing the manager, I got my room key. Monday June 26 I met up with Samir at around 8:30, the earliest I had woken up in a while. We checked out the historic district of the town. I had been here the first time I was in Bogota, but this time was much better with someone who knew what I was looking at. Later on we went to the top of the tallest building in Bogota, to get a panoramic of the city. The city is really flat, and just goes on and on. We then we to the Treasury Museum. I was pretty impressed with how organized the exhibit was, and it was free another bonus. After that I decided to take a siesta and we met up later on to go to the nice section of town. It was a 30 minute bus ride away to the Zona Rosa, where you can walk the streets at night, and feel safe. This is also the section with all of the best malls, restaurants (TGI Fridays and Hard Rock Cafe) and clubs. We just walked around, checking out all the nice places, feeling a bit like home, had a couple beers in a park (not like home), and than I went back to the hotel.
