How's the serenity in Huacachina

When we were told Huacachina was a town clustered around an oasis we immediately generated images in our mind of a small lagoon with palm trees surrounded by towering sand dunes and surprisingly enough that was exactly what it was. Pretty sure it never rains there and was blue skies and hot everyday of our stay so the pool and sun lounges got a thorough working over.
To offset the good food and lying around we climbed the sand dune immediately behind our hostel most days and after a 25 minute hard slog through the sand we were rewarded with amazing views of giant sand dunes as far as you could see and also got to enjoy the run back down the record being 27 seconds from top to bottom.

Huacachina being only a very small place, we decided one day to catch a 10 minute cab to nearby Ica and try a local Peruvian dish called Ceviche (or Cebiche, seen it spelt both ways) which is basically raw seafood marinated in lemon juice as far as we could tell....some would say eating raw seafood anywhere let alone South America would be risky and they would be absolutely correct. Jo's iron stomach forged in the wilds of Nigeria held up well, I on the other hand was out of action for a couple of days so unfortunately we missed the opportunity to take a dune buggy ride out into the giant dunes and the chance to sand board, fortunately still had the energy to lie by the pool which of course resulted in my 20th case of sunburn in two months. Despite these minor complications we still had a very relaxing time.
