Universal Studios
From A month out West in Santa Monica, United States on Jul 06 '08
Another packed day. We spent the whole day at Universal Studios. I even braved public transportation to get there, and although it took a long time, it was relatively easy to figure out and no one tried to sell the girls pot! Much better than the prospect of me getting lost on the streets of LA in my car--that is one adventure I don't want to write about in this blog!
Universal Studios is less of a roller coaster type park, and more of a show and rides-with-special-effects type park. We went to a show themed after the movie Waterworld, and that was really great with all kinds of neat special effects. The actors were all actors from real shows like CSI, Law and Order, Heroes, and a couple others I can't remember. Pretty impressive, except that I never watch TV so I didn't recognize any of them! Oh well.
Can't think of a clever line to open this blog with....
Another show was Fear Factor Live, based on the TV show where contestants do scary and gross and daring things to win. The contestants were just people from the park, and on one challenge they had to drink this smoothie made of fish guts, pig parts(including the eyeballs), and soured milk. It was so, so nasty. I promise you I was not raising my hand high in the air to get on this stage. You could not pay me to do some of the things those crazy people did. Yuck! It was fun to watch though.
We did the backlot studio tour of course, and saw all kinds of movie sets and that was very interesting. The main reason I wanted to go. So we got most of the interesting rides and shows in, and then headed home just as it was getting dark. I was going to stay for one more ride, but it occured to me that I might not want to be transferring from subway to bus on the streets of Hollywood in the dark. So we made it home before it got too creepy.
So we are back to the hostel, and tired out again! Tomorrow we head out of here for our last destination, San Diego. It's been a nice stay.
More tomorrow,
Beth
