I Broke the Door!

I Broke the Door!
Well, the past two weeks have been busy but I have been quite upset about this!
Cra-a-a-ck Went the Door!
There is an old, wooden clothes closet in the upstairs hallway here. It’s called a ropero and I broke the top left side of the left door.
The door was hard to close but I was firm. Finally, it did close just as I heard a cracking sound. Turns out the maid had cleaned the closet and left the doors open to air it out. She had moved the hangers to the side and the door would not close properly. Michael (the husband in the couple) who rent the house to me wrote about having to be careful with hangars as the door cannot close when they are too close to the side. But this was after the fact.
I try not to worry about the past but don’t know what to do about this. I wrote to Joanie and Michael and Michael suggested that I talk to our Spanish teacher to find out about repairs. I will do that in our next class on Tuesday.
I try to be so careful with their belongings and will get this taken care of.
On to happier things:
Hanal Pixan (the Mayan Days of the Dead) activities were especially interesting this year. A neighbor invited us to her home for the family dinner. She had an altar with pictures of her deceased parents; her family was there to talk and laugh; food was pib (a giant tamale) and xeek (a citrus salad with jicama and chile), and Pan de Muertos (bread with sugar on top).
Next day, we went to Playa del Carmen and a wonderful afternoon on the beach, followed by a trip to the ruins of Tulum (in a vaguely southern CA atmosphere.)
The American Consulate invited Americans and friends to an election party at the Intercontinental Hotel here. The crowd mostly supported Obama and went WILD when he got the needed electoral votes. It was a great experience to be there. I wanted to stay until the Alaska results came in but got tired. A good thing, since it is over three days later and we still don’t know if Uncle Ted or Mark Begich won the Senate set! Even after Uncle Ted’s conviction!
I realized that I have been living Juneau style since I got here and have tried to slow down to Merida time this week BUT…
Tuesday and Thursday, I have Mental Gymnastics in the early morning in a beautiful garden campus. The park had been a hospital and now is used for various classes.
Monday and Wednesdays, cooking class where we prepare one food each class. Pineapple Upside Down Meatloaf was not a favorite – although the homeless man I gave it to appreciated it - but the meat loaf stuffed with carrots and green peppers is good enough that I will make it at home.
The language schools have not met my requirements so I have private lessons with a dentist in his offices. Well, not in the dental chair but in another part of his office.
It’s a bit cooler here today and I want to do homework and catch up on email.
