We had a few days left in Mongolia and so we booked our selves a two day horse riding trek in one of the National Parks not far outside Ulan Bator.  We rode for two days with a guide and a packhorse carrying camping gear.  We spent a fantastic night camped by a river miles from anywhere.  The only problem was the cold, it snowed several times on the first day as a series of heavy showers swept through and although it didn't settle it felt freezing.  We were glad of the ripped off North Face we'd brought in UB and the huge fire we built at night.

Before we set off we spent a night alongside these guys who'd brought a live sheep for dinner. I helped butcher it!

Horse wise Clare made the most of her three half hour lessons she had in Norfolk before we left and competently galloped across the grasslands at every available opportunity.  Me and my horse could never agree on the correct pace to be moving at.  He was very much of the opinion that anything faster than a trot was just showing off and unnecessary, I preferred to go faster, but the stronger of the two of us won most of the time.
