A Day at Balaton with friends..
From The fat lady is getting ready to sing... in Siofok, Hungary on Jun 21 '08
The day started back in Budapest with my mom's older sister (Pirineni) and her grandchild (Gabor) and his family coming to visit. It was nice to see Gabor his wife Melinda and the kids Vicki and Norbi. It had been about 3 years since I last saw them and chatted. Gabor is one family member that you can keep up a good conservation with. They only stayed till about noon having a birthday party to attend.
Now my afternoon was free, so we had previously planned on heading down to Balaton today, but where concerned about the family visiting. Szepy and Gyuszi picked up Sophie and I and we where off. It was a nice drive, getting to just sit and watch the scenery go by. We did a lot of chatting and arrived at the south/eastern edge of Lake Balaton in about 1 hour or so. We stopped at the look out point, it is an area that used to belong to the communist elite. Now it is for all.
We drove through Siofok, wanting to stop there and swim, but arriving so late in the day, the place was packed. It did bring back lots of memories, it was the place that Bill first held my hand.
We headed to Balatonfoldvar, the next nice town up. It was really nice. The strangest thing for me, was actually being able to see across the lake. I am used to the Gulf of Mexico's great expanse. It turned out to be a beautiful day. The temps where quite high, the breeze cool in the shade, the tree leaves just blowing in the wind. It is nice since there is no sand, but grass at the beach. Yes, that made me a happy camper. (I happen to hate sand.) We just layed there on our blankets looking at the trees from beneath. It could not have been a more beautiful afternoon. Oh yes, the H20 was great too. Sophie and I took a dip. I could not get her out, so Gyuszi took over on Sophie duty. I don't know which one of them more tired by the evening.
We headed to our favorite fried fish place. The serve fried Hek. I am thinking it is a local fish. But whatever it is or where ever it comes from it was so good., nice and crispy on the outside, no fish taste and white and tender inside.
We reluctently drove back to BUD to the hustle and bustle of the city. It was probably one of my best days of the vacation. Just able to relax and do not much of anything. Thanks to some truly amazing friends.
