Puerto - an oasis of sanity after a hellish 2 days
From The Foys on Tour - Latin America in Puerto Escondido, Mexico on Apr 22 '08
Puerto is a sleepy little surfing village 6 hours from Oaxaca, right on the beach. It was made famous by a cult 60s surfer flick, which is still shown here on a nightly basis. Anywhoo - it was a 6 hour drive, crammed 13 people into a minivan with no aircon, no ventilation and the most winding road in Mexico. More than one of our tour was motion sick, and we were all thoroughly OVER it by the time we arrived. It didn`t help that our original bus broke down halfway there and we needed to swap buses....
Our hotel in Puerto is, thankfully, up to scratch. Aircon and everything means we slept well for the first time in almost a week (having racked up only 10 hours in the the last 3 nights, mostly due to substandard accomodation). We spent a lazy couple of days here by the pool, eating great seafood and generally catching our collective breath. Its the first time this holiday we`ve been able to actually HOLIDAY without feeling rushed, and was long overdue.
Puerto Escondido - so long and thanks for all the fish!
There isn`t much more to tell about Puerto - it provided us with a well timed break, some great seafood, a measure of sanity, and some good times. Next stop Acapulco!!
