Well, we are at the beginning of the end now. Today saw Team Kiwi Cycling ride the first half of the penultimate stage of last years tour from Cahors to Angouleme. However it is fair to say that the level of enthusiasm has wilted in last couple of days. Now that the major challenges of our tour have been met, it’s a hard to get motivated and onto the bike each day. In a way, that is part of the overall challenge of a tour cyclist and so we are experiencing (to a point) some of the emotions they probably go through.

Anyway, two slightly tired and weary lads mounted their (very) trusty steeds and headed north out of town. Major highlight of the day was the small town of Beynac on the river Dordogne. This gorgeous spot is the site of a preserved ancient city and has fantastic views down the river valley from the castle on the river bend. Lots of tourists around and was a nice spot for a bit of lunch. Also saw a kiwi campervan with NZ flag prominently displayed and spotted the second fox of the tour before he hurriedly sought the protection of the forest.

we are starting to get sick of the view of our front wheels

Very much a grind today as the boys are bit tired and saddle sore. Undoubtedly a pretty country to be riding through, but starting to get sick of the view of my front wheel and the road ahead! Looking forward to finishing in a couple of days time.

Totals for the day; 113.9km in 4 hrs 40 min averaging 24.6kph. Total to date, 2379km.

Yep no doubt you are getting sick of the small piece of leather pounding your behind but I bet you will miss the road when you start packing up for the return. I am betting the next adventure will be planned on the plane back!
