After finding the best supermarket ever, or at least since the beginning of our trip that is, it was time to move on (hoping that Liber was a chain of stores and that we would see it again soon). Our next destination was La Serena, where we planned to spend our Christmas holiday. At first sight it was a simply wonderful experience... there was a mall! Yep, that`s right, a mall. Just knowing that our minds started to wonder off, thinking about all the other things that could possibly be found in this heavenly westernized city that has a mall. The shops, the food, the fashion (they actually had a sense of fashion), the wine, restaurants... it was almost to much to handle.

To start off our La Serena experience, let me tell you, we were not disappointed, but overwhelmed with joy that this would be our home for the Christmas holiday. For the most part, it was the accessability to supermarkets that made me the most happy. As I have now (a bit late but nonetheless) decided to move on towards a healthier lifestyle, and in combination with a lack of variety found in Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, it was an incredible feeling to make your own food and to find good... no great ingredients. Initially we decided to cook ourselves because in Chile it is to expensive too eat out, but in the end as it turned out to be a rewarding experience we mostly continued to do it for that reason instead. It was like a whole new world had opened up for us... so let the cooking begin.

Like I mentioned earlier La Serena was our home for Christmas. However, it didn`t really feel like Christmas at all, especially since it was around 30C. The mass amount of tacky ornaments from the 80´s also threw us off a bit, and in combination with being so far away from home it really did feel like I was simply skipping Christmas this year. I actually didn`t even miss it. We did however make an effort to celebrate. Smoked salmon, mini sausages, cooked ham with mustard... hmm.. traditionally (that is according to Swedish tradition) that was about it. Basically we just drank a lot of bubbly...hihi.
