I’ve been to the Bavarian’s capital before (back in 2006 I think) and really enjoyed the city. I came back this time partly because I want to see the city again and because it was on route for my mom. She flew into Venice and will be going home from Frankfurt…so Munich was a natural choice to make a 2 day stop. I initially wanted to go to Fussen instead but I really don’t know what is there except that you can take a day trip to see the romantic road and see King Ludwig’s Neuchweinstein castle which is what disney’s castle is based on. Would’ve been really cool to see the castle…maybe next time when I see Germany again.

The problem with staying close to train stations is that the area is usually pretty dogdey. We stayed at G Hotel and it was a little bit out of the way and it was in a neighborhood with all the cheap eateries and strip joints haha. We got a lot of funny stares when we walked through that neighborhood…I hope these men didn’t think we work in any of those red light establishments haha
Germany was having a major heat wave at the time…OMG it was so hot!! I think it must have been 30 everyday. Not that its something I’m not used to but some places did not have air conditioning INCLUDING our hotel. Man, that was brutal. We slept with the windows open but didn’t want mosquitos to come in so we kept the curtains closed. Even though it was so frickin hot, we still managed to enjoy the time there. We hung out at the main shopping street that leads to Marienplatz which is where the center of the city is and the main buildings are. We shopped there, ate there and always seem to come back to that spot. We went to find my favourite spot in Munich which is this modern upscale shopping alley called Funf Hofe…it has a lot of design-y things about it. Last time I was there I went to see the Toulouse Lautrec gallery that was only there temporarily…that was good! And I found the shop where I bought my wine glasses from…they still have them haha! We took pictures around Odeonplatz where they have many yellow buildings (there are many yellow buildings in Germany…the yellow is suppose to be the royal color of the Habsburg family so they call it the Habsburg yellow).

Another favourite place of mine is the outdoor market called Viktualienmarkt! They have food stalls where you can buy beer, Munich’s famous sausage called weisswurste (which is a white veal sausage with lots of green onion or parsley which I just loveeeeeee…not! Oh ya and don’t eat the skin) The first night we had dinner near the market and had these little sausages called Nuremburg style bratwurst…they tasted ok. But the dessert was the best part! Its called Kaiserschmarrm…which is a pancake in Bavarian style. The pancake is all mushed together with raisins, almonds and apple sauce. YUMS! The next day we went back to the market to get something less meaty (by this time we already had so much meat in our system that its time to taste something else). We walked and walked…and found this cute seafood place that you can either eat there or buy the seafood so u can make it at home. They didn’t have English menu…but we just pointed what the guys got next to us and had that. It was a fish soup where at least 3 different types of fish was cut into cubes, along with mussels, clams, shrimp, and maybe even octopus. It tasted sooo good…or maybe its just ok but we had so much meat in the last couple of days, having fish was kind of refreshing! And I sampled some Munich beers like Lowenbrau, and Paulaner. The beer is Europe tastes sooo good…I’m not much of a beer person but I really like it.

Thank goodness that I didn’t gain that much weight even with all this eating hehe oh ya and we went to see the Alte Pinakothek (old museum). I wanted to see this the last time I was there but the guidebook I had had wrong info in it. I went on a night I thought it would open late but the museum was closed…boo! But I got to see it this time…really enjoyed looking at all the old art…although I’m starting to like modern art. We really took it easy in Munich and really enjoyed all the food haha
