On recommendation from Kai, I (Liz) spent the morning in Dessau, about 30 minutes from Leipzig.  Dessau was home to Walter Gropius and the Bauhaus, and there still are some buildings left (and reconstructed) that are wonderful examples of the Bauhaus style.  The master buildings were tucked into a small, tree-lined neighborhood in a quiet part (is there a loud part?) of Dessau.  The old Bauhaus building, where the school had been, has been reconstructed after years of neglect and change after the war and DDR rule.  I tried to find the other examples of Bauhaus in town, but found myself headed on the way out of town one too many times, so I gave up and headed to Halle!
