With much anticipation, we made our way to Halong Bay where the famed limestone karsts sit poking out of the water in the bay east of Hanoi. Although the weather was a little hazy, we found it to be striking. The only negative thing was that it has gotten so touristy. As we left the harbor, I counted 60 other junk boats out on the water within eyesight not including those docked in the harbor. There must have been hundreds in total as we continued to see loads along the way. Our junk boat and crew was very nice and we had a couple of wonderful seafood meals including fantastic prawns and squid. The seafood was very fresh as some local fisherman actually live in houseboats all along the bay. We also took a tour of a huge limestone cave and then we spent the night on the water anchored in one of the small bays.

I’ll keep this entry short and sweet and let the pictures speak for themselves! (only down side on the pics was that we didn’t have clear skies)

The following morning we hit the road on our way to Hue.
