Today was fun!  We went to a temple up on the mountain... the temperature was so great - like SF.  And I didn't get the mosquito bites that I was expecting.  We saw this little troupe of drummer boys.  There was also this little old lady monk that was the most adorable person that I have ever seen.  Like a cartoon character, but cuter.

Then!  We went to Talat Warorot, a market that was for people who live here and not mainly tourists.  Such a better experience than many other markets we've seen.  We found the coconut cream custard things that Christina recommended... it was so soft and delicate inside and the outside was nice and crispy on the inside, just how I like it.  It was mostly sweet, but it had a fair amount of saltiness that worked really well.  And then they gave us the custards in this really cute tray made of leaves.  The woman at the stand folded it this way and then that way, stuck a few toothpicks in it, and then it was this nice tray.  She also wrapped up some sugar in another leaf.  That made these things even more fun!

We also ate these fried doughnut things that were filled with mung bean paste.  We also found those mung bean candies shaped like fruit that Christina talked about - they're like marzipan, but with mung beans instead of almonds.  Brian and I liked them, but Jenni and Mark could do without them.  We also found these other fried coconut things.  They had shredded coconut and were in this coconutty, chewy batter.  And then fried and crispy on the outside.

We also got some jackfruit.  Again, B and I liked them but J and M didn't.  Maybe these candies and jackfruit are a Chinese thing.

I also found some mango that kinda looked like the kind that Christina recommended that I try, the one that is kinda like avocado.  So I bought it to try it.  I don't think this was the right kind... it was more like a combination between an Asian pear and a mango, but a bland Asian pear.  We did try to ask what kind of mango it was, but they just kept saying it was a Thai mango.  We'll try again.

I think it's too late to wish you luck... Is it too late to wish Thunderforce luck? I'm confused about when it is where.

I'm glad you found a bunch of the desserts I recommended! You were probably starting to think that I had made all of them up. That mango doesn't sound like the one I recommended though. The people who live up in the Chiang Mai mountains are nice, and it's not so hot and humid there. I remembered the big difference in temperature when I was there as well. To answer your previous comment about grated coconut, I think they only have them frozen, imported from Thailand. I haven't really looked for them in SF so I don't know if you can find it around here. Anyways, tomorrow is the big pottery sign up /mad dash. Wish me luck!

I'm with MJ on the jackfruit. Never liked the stuff. Or the other one. It's all buttery and smells really bad and is spiky. My brother and I called it Elephant Poop when we were little. Still do. Durian! My favorite christmas song is the caption to your first picture.
