Just outside of Wall, SD lies an area known as "The Badlands" which you really must see! This place is BEAUTIFUL!!! It is a geological wonder of spires, peaks and naturally eroded etchings of earth (reminds you of a miniature Grand Canyon). The palette of colors in the soils is remarkable, evidently remnants of lava and soils washed down stream as well as fossils and prehistoric animals. http://www.blackhillsbadlands.com/ Unfortunately, the temps weren't kind to us. It was chilly and windy, but that didn't stop us from venturing through the entire park.

We were fortunate enough to see some native South Dakota birds(Meadowlark and bluebird), mule deer, prairie dogs and of course....bison. Now that is one big animal! No baby bison yet, though. We had heard from a friend that it is a real treat to watch the calves play. Well maybe we'll just have to come back later in the spring.
