Travelling to New York without sleep

I managed an hour sleep on the 4.5 hour plane ride to the East but all of a sudden rather than being 2am in the morning, the 3 hour time difference made it 5am in the morning. With 1 hour of sleep my brain wasn’t in the best condition to make the right judgments. I had arranged to stay at my mum’s high school friend’s house and prior to my arrival; I have been speaking with Hanna the daughter of my mum’s friend. I even emailed her my Itinerary so she would know when to expect me and pick me up as we arranged.

Then Brain mistake #1, I failed to jot down Hanna’s number in my email account. So, I got my laptop out to find a wireless hotspot in my arrival terminal and with no success I couldn’t pick up any free ones. Then I got out the paper list of numbers that my mum gave me and tried calling them with that number but the number was disconnected.

Then Brain mistake #2, I decided it was best to leave the terminal to go to Terminal 4 to get a hotspot. Once I found one, I logged into my Gmail account and called Hanna, by this time it was about 6.40am and they had been running around looking for me and waiting for a while and had already given up so they were on their way home. So I had to catch at taxi to their place.

Then Brain mistake #3, getting into a taxi with only an address and not knowing the distance or direction, I was taken for a ride as the taxi driver was going around the same streets over and over again. Maybe he honestly didn’t know how to get there but I was way too tired to argue so I settled the set back of a $60 cab ride.

But after all the drama, I made it safely to the apartment, met my mum’s high school friend and her husband. By this time Auntie was already on the phone to my mum and when she handed the phone to me so I that I could have a few words to my mum. My mum was like, “What the hell are you doing?” simply because I caused some confusion in the pick up at the airport. But oh well. I’m safe and here now. Auntie and Uncle’s son and daughter Vincent and Hanna was back in bed and so I took a shower before needing to hit the hay until 1pm then waking up and meeting Vince and Hanna. We then went out for Yum Cha and ended up relaxing for the rest of the day.
