When in spain.......
From Searching for 7's in Benidorm, Spain on Jun 27 '07
Right out of the box I had a reality check on being in a foreign speaking country. Running on no sleep, I had walked right past the luggage carocel. As I stepped thru the door I felt the pit in the stomach that signifies mistake and made a 180. Too late. Mr. Non English speaking policeman caught me from going back in and sent me on my way. Cops, weather they are US or Spaniard they all have the power issue. I knew this simple little event was going to turn into a big issue. I didn´t know exactly what he was saying but by the smug look that he and all his fellow policemen share I wanted to kill him. I made my way out the door, back thru to the info desk and asked how to get my bags. I then wandered around for a while then figured out how to jump thru all the hoops and finally got my bags. AHH, the joys of travel. I caught a bus to Benidorm where my cousin Doug and our Spaniard savior Oscar Gonzalez picked me up. They were just getting ready to have paella, a traditional rice and saffron dish invented years ago in nearby valencia. I had read of this months ago while researching my trip and had been looking forward to trying it for some time, I was not let down.
I was dead tired but there was no way Doug was going to let me sleep on my first night in town, we were home by 8am. The next day we were up at 5, pm that is. Made a quick walk around town, came home, cleaned up and did it all over again. Things were winding down and we were supposed to meet Matt Olsen a felow Americano traveling the world at 8am arriving by bus from----. I was getting tired so decided on a cafe con leche (strong ass coffee and milk) wow! what a punch. Just what I needed expecially since
