On to Bora Bora
From Jeff & Cheryl's Oceania Adventure in Bora Bora, French Polynesia on Mar 15 '07
Headed back to Tahiti, and then on to Bora Bora. A long series of flights – Nuku Hiva, Papeete, Raitia, and finally Bora Bora, coming in just at sunset – FANTASTIC! Probably the most dramatic island contours on earth. The airport is on one of the small motus(islands) in the atoll surrounding the main island. Multi-hued shallows of reef and sand like an opal through the transparent waters. Unfortunately by the time we got going on the boat to the main island, is was dark, so have to wait till the morning to see the glory up close. Our room at the Temanuata pension was a nice authentic grass hut on the beach, with native artwork in a lush garden setting. It had a mosquito net over the bed, but we didn’t have any trouble with mosquitoes and tucked it behind the headboard. Still another hot and humid night, and the bed was not quite large enough for me to stretch out my legs without being pressed between the headboard and foot board. Walked down the street 10min to a restaurant for another great meal, Cheryl got an awesome bacon wrapped chicken that was some of the best chicken I’ve ever tasted. I never was keen on French cooking before, but after all these great meals, will need to give it a second thought.
Tora Tora, on to Bora Bora
