There was so much to see in Verona I felt a bit rushed through the city. My favorite site was a castle that Carlo Scarpa had designed an addition and renovation in the 1950's to the 14 century castle. His attention to details was absolutely amazing. It was easy to read the layers in his work. He preserved as much as possible while creating a modern interior with steel and glass.

Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet was written here. Juliet’s famous balcony is now a big attraction. It was a nice change of pace to visit. There is a tunnel leading into the courtyard. Over the years it has become one giant love note. Everyone comes through and spray paints, carves, or leaves notes expressing their love. Emily had post-it-notes and we each left our own notes. It was a magical thing to do. And of course we had to get ice cream. I had kinder, choc. chip, and white choc. It was the best I had in Italy!! We shopped in the main square for a bit. I bought an Italia soccer jersey. The vendor in the market told me player on my jersey was 'a very beautiful man'.

While leaving the city we had to scale down a huge hill to get to the bus. Off to Parma!!
