Homesick.

I am not homesick in the way that I miss home and wish I was there.  But that's not to say I'm not homesick.  What I do miss are the people.  I'm homesick in a way that I miss the people that I want to share in these amazing experiences (sorry Kev, not you, you are sharing these experiences with me, you are not missed).

When I climbed the Franz Josef Glacier, aside from focussing on each footstep, I let my mind wander to who would be the perfect group to experience this with? Who would I trust in front of me and behind me? Who would make the most of the wettest experiences of our lives? Who would smile, ear to ear as they are wringing out their everything, and say "let's do it again'.  This is what I'm homesick for.

As I sit here on the banks of Lake Wakatipu, staring out at the silhouette of The Remarkables, with a completely foreign set of stars overhead, I think of who i would love to share this experience with.  All wilderness enthusiasts would be awestruck with our campsites.  My mind immediately jumps to any and all the people I have ever been camping with.  Even those that I have never shared a tent with and especially those who proposed a winter camping trip that never came to fruition.

I simply don't understand how I could stare at the surroundings, the stars and not be a romantic.  I would hope to come back at another point in my life and share this part of the world with someone I love.  Right now this blog is all I have to try and share these experiences with you.  One day I will COME BACK.  If any of you ever travel to this part of the world, please contact me so I can give you all of these beautiful places to see.

After careful evaluation I decided that I would not make the cut as your ‘trip partner’. I’m more a “lie on the beach with booze in my hand” kind of guy than a “let’s go hiking” kind of guy. But, if you ever want to see the foreign starts overlooking Las Vegas, you give me a call!

Well Mr. Mike, you better believe that I am going to be the 1st one to jump all over this ever-so-inviting blog. Hmm, would you really want me there in front of you? NO, I'd fall, you'd get hurt...end of that one. Would you really want me behind you? NO, I'd bother you endlessly with my pessimistic views on why the...FUDGE we did it! Smiling ear to ear? Chris Mitchell? Yeah maybe, but not when I was soaked to the teets...but Michael, I do miss you and that sexy bald head of yours. Sounds like you are having an amazing time wandering the other side of the world. Just wanted to let you know that I too, like many others, am living my life through your blogs, so please do keep them up. Be good! *Go Leafs Go*
