And now to the Alps

I flew from Madrid thankfully into a place called Basel (I think I mentioned this earlier). I was in and out of Basel, before I realized that my man Roger Federer is from there. In fairness I didn't give Basel a chance, but I had other places that were calling me.

So, now Luzern/Lucerne. Do a google on it to see how pretty this place is. It's pretty magical. Really is.

The first day after walking around for a while I met up with a dude from SoCal (Southern California to the lamen). We hung out for a bit and got some beer-grub. Getting back to the hostel I hung out with another overaged backpacker, only she was from Australia. We hung out for a bit more before we called it a night and went to bed (separately of course, I love you Cath). The next day I had prearranged it with a hostel employee to hook me up with a canyoning tour if the morning was nice. Sure enough, it was, and I went canyoning.

Gus had gone so I remember hearing about this. I thought it was about repelling down cliffs and through waterfalls. Gus, I don't know if this is what you did, but it's not what my trip consisted of. It was me and an entire family (minus a mother) from SoCal. Really really friendly people. They were all sweet people. Anyways, we get up the mountain, and I come to find that canyoning is all about jumping off of rocks, some 30 or 40 feet into shallow water, or riding natural rock slides, as well as the repelling down a waterfall. The whole thing was half a day. Totally expensive, totally worth it. It was totally exhilirating. The first jump, I nearly wet my pants before I even jumped in. It's kind of a shock, but you gotta do what you gotta do. It was friggin awesome. Sure, you get water up your nose and you swallow a bit of it, but the rush when you fall is unreal. It takes split seconds to hit surface but it truly feels like minutes when you're falling into the unknown.

The best part in my opinion was the time we had to - get this - jump from a rock, hit another with your body so it stops your momentum and then just fall down (it's a waterslide at that point) into a pool of cold water. It was friggin awesome. I highly recommend this kind of stuff for anyone that can stomach the height. One of the guys with me was scared of heights but he managed to do all the jumps. All good.
