I´ve always wanted to go to one of the wonders of the world, and yes... before you ask it was damn cool.

Got there at 830, which meant I managed to do the site before it got too hot and the place started to fill up with manically clapping tour groups (the accoustics of the ball court give great accoustics, but by 10 it was driving me crazy).

Wonder of the World

El Castillo, the major pyramid is an awe inspiring sight.  However, and its sounds stupid, it took me a while to really absorb its grandeur.  Its my own fault really.  I spent most of the morning walking near the ruins taking in the details, mottos and freizes.  But it was only when I stepped back that I thought... wow!  It takes a bit of scale to get the size of the site and understand the way the different pieced fit together.

The ball court is also fantastic.  At 90m its just massive, and the rings are probably 10m´s high, god knows how they got the ball in.  The friezes down the sides of the wall depict scenes from the game, and you can clearly make out an image of a ball player holding the decapitated head of his opponent.  Debate still exists as to whether its the winner or the losers head, but eitherway its sounds like a crazy game.

Cenote de los Sacrifious was my first cenote, though it certainly wasnt my last... but that´s another story
