Before even getting in to Salvador we became particularly well aquainted with its airport, waiting for 6 hours for Mum and Peter´s flight from London. eventually we managed to seek out the rather crucial information that the flight infact hadn´t yet left Gatwick! Feeling suitabley bothered by this spanner in our carefully engineered redezvous plans, we took the shuttle bus to the lovely Village Novo hotel on the seafornt at Porto da Barra.
Mum and Peter made it in the end, even managing to negotiate Salvador´s traffic in the hire-car after what must have been an exhausting journey. They got straight down to business sampling some tropical fruits at the hotel´s excellent buffet breakfast.

Salvador had loads to offer and was a friendly place, (if you could fend off the multiple seller, touts and con-artists). We enjoyed the beach at Barra with the help of Bruno our "fixer" who got us a coconut and mangaged to shoo a highly annoying very sandy child!
The old town (Pelourinho) was great for wandering around and a show at one of the small theatres of Candoble and Capoeira should not be missed.
Other highlights were the fantastic meal to be had at a local Lebanese restaurant and the outfits of local ladies in traditional dress.
