From Italian Spring Break in Milan, Italy on Apr 12 '07

We spent our last fun-filled, Italian day in Milan.  It wasn't at the top of our list, but there was a super cheap flight out of Milan, so we decided to pay the lovely city a visit!

We purchased a map and went on our way, heading toward different sights to explore.  We passed a large statue of Da Vinci on our way to the main shopping/restaurant area.  It was very neat and different from anything I've seen before.  It was almost like being in a fancy train station with the arched, glass ceilings.  It felt like we were inside, but we were still outside...sort of...because there were no doors to enter this area.  The area was completely open, and with the huge, high ceilings, it felt like we were still outside even though we were under cover.  There was a funky glass art sculpture inside this area, too.

After exploring in there for a bit, we went to the city square where the Milan Cathedral is located.  It was absolutely beautiful with its gothic architecture in pink and ivory marble.  Those are two characteristics one doesn't normally see together.  We went inside to see the large, beautiful interior.  The interior was a lot like other cathedrals we've seen, but the outside was so unique.

We walked through town past the Arch of Peace, reminiscent of the Arch of Constantine, and past the parks and gardens of Milan.  After walking alllllll day, we grabbed a bite to eat and headed back to our little hotel.

We had to sleep in shifts, as we did not have an alarm clock and had to catch a 4:00 a.m. shuttle to the airport.  It worked well, but we were exhausted the rest of the day.  Spring Break was absolutely amazing with Steven, and I hope to have more breaks like this in the future!
