On our way to Taupo we had a small hike at the Huka Falls plus Craters of the Moon. How interesting to be walking through a thermal area with boiling mud pools, steam vents and craters. After a lunch stop in Taupo we carried on to Whatapapa Village on Mount Ruapehu. It was windy, cold and rainy as we pulled into Skotel. This is one of the areas where Lord of the Rings was filmed. After a hike we nestled under the big duvets in our cosy cabin. This is summer?!
