Pike's Peak-a-Boo
From Looking for America in Colorado Springs, United States on Aug 17 '06
We woke up this morning with great ambitions. We planned to take a quick look at Rocky Mountain National Park, then head out to Colorado Springs to visit Garden of the Gods, the Air Force Base and Pike's Peak before spending the evening with Jessie's aunt and her family.
What actually happened, however, was that we found ourselves 12,000 feet up on a narrow windy road with a temperature of 49 degrees in the middle of a hail storm. We spent about six hours in the national park when we had planned to spend two. It was enjoyable, but not quite how we had planned to spend the day. Also, the elevation had taken its toll on us. We sped down to Colorado Springs in time for a great dinner at Aunt Diane's house, where we would have had a great view of Pike's Peak from the back yard, had it not been such an overcast sky. Maybe tomorrow!

It was great to see everyone, and we especially enjoyed our after-dinner piano concert. (Thanks, Robby!)
