Get us out of here!

From the second we landed in Cancun, we knew this wasn't our type of place. We were expecting the Girls Gone Wild videographer to be waiting on the other side of the transom as we got off the plane but he must have been in the bathroom or something. The key was to get our rental car and get as far away from here as fast as possible.
Once we got to the car rental place, our desire to leave Cancun quickly was reinforced as an irate American man castigated this poor Mexican Enterprise worker because HIS credit card wasn't working. Uncharacteristic of myself, I let the guy have it by telling him, "You know, it's shit like that that's why everyone hates us!" He looked at me dumbfounded but I can't help but feel (hope) that he got the message. There really should be an etiquette class given before anyone is issued a passport in the United States. But I must keep reminding myself that those type of people are the exception, not the rule. I just hope the rest of the world realizes this also.

I didn't let this ruin my day because I can't hold a grudge for as long as I can hold my breath. And also as soon as I saw our chariot, a Chevy Chevy, my mood quickly changed from irritation to amusement. The "egg" as we called it, was just about that... an egg. All I have to say is thank god we're short people with small clothes that didn't need big suitcases because we may have had to rent a trailer to tow behind it.
The goal now was to get to Xcalak before it got too dark. It was about 1pm and Xcalak is about a five hour drive from Cancun that winds southward past Cozumel and through Xel-Ha and Tulum.
We were hungry and we needed a quick place to eat so for some reason we turned into the Tulum ruins in hopes of finding a quick bite. About 20 unappetizing dollars later we were no longer hungry but were scratching our heads as to why we decided to stop at a tourist trap to eat lunch. It was probably Kathy's idea because when I get hungry, I'm a total bastard.
Next, we stopped in Tulum to get some groceries and other items. We also needed cash and the ATM machine next to the little grocery store wasn't working so we had to search for another one. We eventually found one but only got about $100 worth of pesos thinking that would be enough because Xcalak will surely have ATM machines. Wrong. **Make sure to take plenty of cash with you if you're going to Xcalak - nobody takes cards and the closest place to get cash is in Chetumal three hours away**
