We left Venice on Monday the 27th of March via water taxi from our hotel, dropping us off within feet of the Bus Terminal. As usual we were a little confused on which bus was ours going to Pula, Croatia. We were somewhat rescued by a Croatian woman going to Pula also. I say somewhat, because we understood little of what she said, but did surmise that we were headed in the right direction. The bus driver confirmed our suspicions by taking our tickets. Off we went to Pula, almost 6 hours later and four different border stops where we were to show our passports. The trip was a little like watching a foreign movie with no sub-titles.

On our arrival in Pula, we stayed the night at a very utilitarian hotel, almost completely empty of occupants. We picked up our car, a little “miss” of a thing, but very comfortable and its diesel. We proceeded on Tuesday up the main highway north to Umag deciding to go up to the northern most part of the Istrian coast and then work our way south. Today we have been through the towns of Umag, Novigrad and are now in Porec for the night. We are finding that we are 15 days ahead of the tourist season and most everything is closed.

Porec is an amazing, centuries old town on a outcropping of land.
