Dawlish Warren is a quaint seaside town that is a popular British vacation spot. It is a nice place to go for a beach stroll or just someplace to laze about for a couple of hours, but it is also very busy during the summer seasons...and touristy in a ‘small town’ sort of way. If you like a little bustle, or to sit back and watch the people pass, then Dawlish Warren is the place for you.

The surrounding geology is quite spectacular, and studded with slightly odd rock formations of varying shapes and color. The soil in the area ranges from dark brown to vibrant red...and beach combers will be happy to know that the beach is sandy; although, there are very rocky spots. If the tide is right, there are some flat rock formations covered in mussels that you can walk on in search of tide-pools and fish.

There is a little ‘canal’ (for a lack of a better word) that runs down the main part of town and into the sea. It is the home to flocks of very brave seagulls (who will eat out of your hand), black swans, iridescent ducks, and miscellaneous other water fowl. There are benches to sit and watch the birds, but they fill up fast so you might have to sit in the grass. In the spring, the gardens around the ‘canal’ will be in bloom and full of tulips and other seasonal flowers.

To get the full experience, you must also try Dawlish Warren’s specialty: clotted-cream with french vanilla and a Cadbury stick. On a sunny day you will see tons of couple and children running about with one of these specialties. Devon is famous for its clotted cream throughout England, and is a pride of the locals.

On your way there, keep you eyes open for traditionally thatched houses, and Elizabethan style pubs! Also, if you have never been on a British bus going through back-roads, sit back and marvell at the skill of the driver! It is amazing.
