I reckon it must have been quite a sight 70,000 years ago when this baby blew - as long as you weren't too close that was.  I am assuming the volcano is extinct...

After the adventure that was Bukittinggi it was nice to sit by the lake, beer in hand and get thoroughly sunburnt.  An amazing place is Lake Toba.

My little motorbike lap around the island was about as energetic as i got,  unless you count numerous nights drinking beer in Tuk Tuk bars.  The countryside is strewn with little white mausoleums and the views of the lake from atop the island are breathtaking.  I did have one crash but since no one saw me i can claim it didn't happen.  Tell you what though i needed a few brewskies afterwards.  I didn't realise the island was so big and i was pretty close to an empty tank when i finished.
