I think you will be as shocked as we were -- the Pancake Ladies are STILL SICK. What, are they like down with the bubonic plague or something? Perhaps what's really going on is they've been kidnapped by some anti-pancake gorilla groups. Anyway, Michael and I are starting to wonder if maybe there is some secret, cosmic reason we are not supposed to eat pancakes on this trip... I'll keep you posted.

Meanwhile, today we went downtown to see the public library because my friend back home said it was awesome, and because Michael and I are big, big fans of giant places full of books. This place was absolutely amazing -- I've never seen such extraordinary architecture. I highly recommend visiting the library if you come to Seattle, even if you think libraries are big yawn-factories. They have a great little cafe in the library where you can get all kinds of coffee and tea, sit and work or read or chat, and buy cool library memorabilia. (I got a "I read banned books pin" for my bag. There was also a shirt I wanted that said, "What happens in the library stays in the library." God, I'm a geek.)

Michael and I traveled up the futuristic-looking escalators (and by "futuristic" I mean 2000 A Space Odyssey, which is more like a past vision of the future which is now the past but never quite happened like that) toward the reading room. The reading room was rad because it was giant. beautiful, and every single desk had a multitude of outlets so you'd never have to worry about not being able to plug-in. We hung out here for quite sometime, blogging, working, enjoying chai lattes and IM-ing each other. We had a lovely day here in the library -- this was the first experience, but not the last, that prompted me to ask, "Is it cheaper to live in Seattle?" (The answer, by the way, is yes.)

Face it, books are cool.

Having geeked ourselves senseless in the library, we decided to cool it up a bit by heading out into the streets in search of debauchery. We decided to take a pass on the local Lusty Lady -- the only coop, unionized strip club in the country -- and headed instead to the trusty Wild Rose. Tonight: Karaoke! Woo hoo! I love to get a bit bombed and live out my rockstar fantasies in front of strangers, so I'm always up for a night of good karaoke. The girls were rocking the mic tonight, with throaty renditions of sappy Sarah McLachlan tunes, head-banging make-overs of Metallica hits, and boot-stomping yee haws of -- well, i don't know who it was, but some country great or other! Another awesome night on Capital Hill!
