Hi everyone,

Since arriving in Annapolis we have found a lovely yacht, and have a contract! Pending test-sail and survey, we'll be moving onboard soon. She's a Canadian designed cruising yacht, Whitby 42'. Verrry exciting!

Annapolis is the mega centre for boats! Located on Chesapeake Bay in Maryland, it's a small town, with a lovely historic 'downtown', with narrow streets, lined with trees and lovely buildings. During our recent boat-hunting travels up this way, we have discovered many lovely small communities dotted around Chesapeake Bay.

We have moved to Savage (east of Annapolis), taking advantage of easy commuting to Washington DC, Baltimore and Annapolis. During the last few days we've had a couple of trips to Washington visiting Museums, The White House, Washington Memorial, Capitol Building, Smithsonian etc. WOW!

More WOWs...we took a trip westwards yesterday. Driving to the Appalachian Mts & visited one of the Civil War Battlefields, Antietam. The countryside is very lovely, with rolling hills, farms, trees...aaahh wow! I've GOT to come back to this state with a bike one day! Walking around the battlefields was very interesting, sad too because so many men died there, in just one day. By today's standards, it all seemed so pointless.

From there we travelled further south, to another historic site, 'Harper's Ferry', on the huge Potomac River. The area there is now a national historic park, very scenic and again, has a lot of interesting history.

Hope you are enjoying our travel-blog. Love Gayle and Peter

WOW from me too. How exciting that you've found THE boat. Can't wait to see the pix. Antietam sounds beautiful and if you want company to cycle those rolling hills, pencil me in. Back home -everyone finished Ironman - Joe had a particularly good day. Joan had the gutsiest effort - completing the race with a torn rotator cuff (and her swim time was still faster than mine!) Great weekend as usual

All you need now to finish the crew is a parrot called"Gilligan". Still not sure that a field officer of Infantry should have a beard, must be pretending to be a pioneer sergeant. Spoke with Julie yesterday and sent her the link to your Blog. She said to watchout for pirates. You will need to post photos of His Majesty's Adventure Sailingship (HMAS ?). How about a mixed name...GAYPETE......I'll ponder some more about name suggestions. Best of luck with your new command. Regards Warren
