Hello again, and thanks for joining me on this blog.  I am having as much fun writing it as you are reading it! It makes the whole trip and all the stories so much more cemented in my memories.  Anyway, today we headed to Bryce Canyon for another day of hikiing and scenery watching and picture taking.  The girls are calling me the paparazzi by this poing, but really they are taking more pictures than I am.  We stopped at Bryce Canyon lodge, and went to the viewpoint of the Canyon from there-unbelievable.  Different from Zion, but very beautiful nonetheless.  So we took a 2 mile roundtrip hike into the canyon, so we could get an up close look at the rock formations, called "hoodoos".  They look like those sand castles you make as a kid with water and sand at the beach. Only much bigger.  You get a whole different perspective from the bottom of the canyon then from the top, and both were cool.  But it was hot and very uphill coming back up.  We made it though, and then drove to the end of the park for another overlook and one mile hike.  So we got our share of hiking in today!  After that a late lunch right outside the park, and we headed to a local small town-Panquitch, Utah-to check in to our motel.  We got here much earlier than other days, so there was time to catch up on stuff like journaling and showering and doing laundry at the local laundry mat.  I really needed some down time after all the excitement of the past couple days.  But I was really bumming because I couldn't get on the internet.  My wireless card wasn't working.  And I didn't know if the hotel had local wireless access and how to get on.  So I checked and they did have wireless access, but weren't too helpful as to how to  get on.  She was foreign and said, "no, I don't know how to use the internet.  No doubt it was the same woman I spoke to over the phone who when I asked her to send me an email confirmation of the reservation, she said, "no, I don't know how to do that, you have a reservation, don't worry about it.  I called later, got her daughter, and she emailed me the confirmation.  We are definitely not in Kansas, Toto.

So, not to be defeated, I spoke to my good friend and technological wizard, TL, who is also a loser at the casino if you remember.  He was no help either, so I was about to give up but the woman at the front desk had given me her "used" name (yes, it was written as used) and her password.  Do you think she has an alter ego as a hooker in Vegas????   Anyway, I somehow managed to find a screen asking for a USER name, tried it out, and the rest is history.  So now I had to write this blog before I go out to dinner because I have no idea if I will be able to get on later!  I am starving and anyone who knows me well knows I get mean as a snake if I don't get something to eat when I am this hungry, so I am gonna say goodbye for the day.  Hopefully access will be easier tomorrow!

"Used" but not defeated, I now qualify as a technological wizard!

Love, Beth

No more worries as to how to get in enough workouts while traveling, huh? Love reading your blog, you are doing a great job! Hi to Melissa and Laura, too.

Beth, I so loved Zion - my sister and I were there on the same trip to Las Vegas and just loved it. The colors and shapes of the rocks were stunning and we did a lot of cross country hiking but didn't see your friend, the rattler. She and I are not quite as close to the slithery guys as you are so we might have been less welcoming. Bryce sounds wonderful too. Sounds wonderful - wish I was there - but I'm planning on visiting Laurie in NC over the 4th so I hope to get some time off too. Be well. Lisa

Kudos to the intrepid correspondent who can hike down to the hoodoos and back then muster the persistence to get her story out. This is like reading the column of a veteran wire reporter in an old evening gazette. And the headings - they're fabulous!

Hi Beth, David just walked into the bedroom and asked me what I was doing. I explained that I was responding to your blog and that you'd just left Zion National Park with the girls and had just arrived at Bryce Canyon. David said, "How come she never takes you on any of these trips?" Of course he was smiling. I know he's envious because we have never taken the boys on a cross country trip. Gary and I did this a couple of times years ago in the Navy days. I do need to go to www.youtube.com to get a refresher course and to put it together with your fabulous personal descriptions. It is rather nice when you have a day to catch your breath...do laundry and so forth. You almost feel like you are a resident there. Hey Beth, David's playing at a coffee house in Parham Plaza on July 11. Of course I'm not invited. Ah, the joys of motherhood. I do think it's great that you are having this quality time with Melissa and her friend Laura. Look forward to your next adventure. :) Jenny
