Sharm is a nice place...For now. In a few years it will be totally overrun with hyper touristy crap. There's already a Hard Rock Cafe, a McDonalds, TGI Fridays, and of course, a Starbucks.
That said, it is nice right now. The weather hits about 100F everyday with the evening temps hit around 85F. It feels a lot like Palm Springs meets the Middle East. The beaches are gorgeous, covered with chairs, umbrellas, and thousands of Russian tourists. The water temps are in the high 70's, and there's an astonishing amount of marine life swimming right up to the beach.

Really, the main reason to head to Sharm is the diving and snorkeling. I've been snorkeling in Hawaii, Aruba, the Bahamas, the Mediterranean, and Thailand. I seriously thought that Thailand could never be topped. I was wrong. The Red Sea is amazingly pristine, with very few people or cities lining its shores.
The other day I went on a snorkeling trip to Tiran Island. The island is located halfway between the Sinai and Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea. We stopped at three dive spots, with one of them being a reef jutting up in the middle of the ocean. It was kinda scary swimming with the reef on my left side, and the open ocean on my right. Seriously, it dropped to about 300 feet in depth just a few feet from me.

I saw tons of stuff. The best thing was a 3-4 foot black Moray Eel. I only had a crappy little disposable camera, so the pics aren't great, but you'll get the gist of it.
