Getting ready for our relaxing day after what happened yesterday, it turned out to be quite energetic! After breakfast at Blue Note, EmJ, Dawn, Rachel and I went surfing! Had a planned discussion last night with Vip about heading with others at 9am!! With us turning up leasurely at 11am, thankfully we weren’t the only ones as no one else bothered at that early hour either! I abosolutely love surfing now! It’s soo much fun and such an adrenaline rush when you manage to stand and catch a wave! Ok I hasten to add, we were being pushed by Vip and he did tell us when to jump sometimes! But even then it was hard to start with and was a sense of achievement when I managed to surf all the way to the beach, now for a beginner I was impressed by myself. Vip (who was teaching us), was so kind and giving us helpful tips each time to improve and rather than just doing our paid hour, he took us out for 2 ½ hours! Very generous with his time. He did say that business now has been slow for him as not many tourists want to travel to Sri Lanka now due to the bombings.

Came back to everyone else, to see sandcastle building, and Katy and Emily having made some new friends in the water, whilst Pam enjoyed her puzzles and photo taking. For lunch we saw our friends at Posidon the other end of Hikkaduwa and to see Chami – the owner’s family were there from England, with his two young boys. Rachel, Dawn and I left for free extra surfing lessons, leaving the others (except Pam) to go snorkelling seeing amazing fish and even a baby shark! Us three were surprised once again that that half an hour turned into way over an hour! We did see ourselves improving though, which was pleasing. I especially liked it, because I tried 3 surf boards in total and the next was easier than the last. So this time I could definitely feel where I was going wrong and easily get my balance on a 9ft board that’s practically flat rather than pointed and smaller which is how I started! Oops maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned that last bit, but you have to start somewhere and get the technique right.

Ok so this day left us feeling absolutely shattered, with not having had much sleep either. Treated ourselves today, by having a refresh style shark steak at Refresh, followed by chocolate fudge brownie. Sitting down that evening, we all felt so happy and even being serenaded by a drummer and traditional guitarist playing my name of ‘Kingston town’ followed by ‘K saraa saraa’, which kind of sounds like my first name! Felt special! No dancing tonight though, as even Rachel and I couldn’t even have the energy to talk to each other walking back to the hotel let alone anything else!
