Passing through long valleys with wheat and cattle. I had to go over 2 major passes, but I try to keep in mind that every foot up is a credit earned and that will be paid back on some glorious downhill. I stopped for a rest under a willow beside the road. These are nice moments- sitting in the shade, munching on sugared peanuts and lying in the grass. No one has ever appreciated that grass like I did.
Unfortunately by the time I got back on the road, the afternoon wind was really swinging and it whipped me viscously all the way over the Big Hole Pass (elevation 7,360 ft.) and into Jackson.

I stayed at the Jackson Hot Springs Lodge and it may be my favorite place so far. I had a little sleeper cabin for myself, and had a lovely dinner at the restaurant and lounged in a great big chair by a fire place and finished my book. Then I had a soak in the hot springs pool.
The sun went down red in the west through the smoke of local fires and by the time I turned in, the moon rose full and red- like its mirror image, in the east. Beautiful.
