So I set off to find some sunshine and hot weather in the Canary Islands...  We flew into the airport and got off the plane at 10:30pm to 27 degrees!!  Yay! As it was quite late we had an early night and got ready for exploring!

The following day it was a little overcast in the morning so had a bit of a look around the town and then headed to the beach..  The beach was all black sand, sunlounges and umbrelllas!  Tenerife has an active volcano (although hasn't erupted in about 100 years!) hence the black sand.  Was absolutely brilliant hot weather and lapped it up in the sunshine for most of the week!  We went to a massive swimming lagoon on one of the days which was good, but the water was absolutely freezing so I didn't actually swim!  And one thing about the Europeans - they have absolutely no shame and most of the ladies were walking around topless - great?!?!?

Tenerife was quite cheap so we went out to dinner most nights for a 2 course meal and drinks for about £20!  You definately didn't need too many drinks though as they don't believe in measured nips here and they usually free pour about the amount of 3 nips and actually bring the spirit bottle to the table and pour your drink from there!

It definately felt like you were in another country here as I didn't hear anyone speak English until the day before we left!  Most of the locals spoke basic English so it wasn't difficult to speak to them.

After lazing around on the beach for most of the week, I decided to go to the Zoo for the last day.  Very glad I did it as it was absolutely fantastic!  There were penguins, gorillas, tigers, parrots and massive lizards!  The best thing though was the dolphin and killer whales shows that I went to see.  They were absolutely brilliant!  It is absolutely amazing what they can do!  I tried to get some photos but my camera wasn't quite quick enough so all I got was the splashes from them going back in the water!!!  I did manage to get a couple pf good photos in though.

Such a shame to be going back to London after all this luxury but unfortunately it was back to reality!

Hello Natalie! I've been reading travel blogs on the Canaries since my fiance and I will be spending our three-week honeymoon there. I'm interested in any insights you might have on how convenient and comprehensive the bus system is on Tenerife? Can you take it from any city to Mt. Teide, for example? Since we'll be there so long, renting a car might not be in the budget... Any info you might have would be very helpful! Please respond to my email (alexandratrumbull@yahoo.com). Thanks! Alex
