The area of Buenos Aires where aur apartment was is called Monserrat. It´s an old part of the city and retains an historic feel, as well as holding most of the goverment buildings. The calle (street) Defensa is so called as it was the line of defense for a British invasions of 1806 and 1807 when the locals helped out by pouring boiling water on the redcoats as they marched up the street. The Basilica de Santo Domingo has canon balls still stuck in the tower and there are Union Jack flags inside that were captured during the battle. Defensa leads down to San Telmo, which is postcard picturesque Buenos Aires. Here you have antique and vintage markets and tango bars. Its also a pretty trendy place these days. There is a fantastic English language book store called Walrus Books and some great bars. I bought a vintage 70s skirt with Buenos Aires newspaper headlines printed all over it. I think its pretty cool. Richard seems to disagree.

I think your skirt sounds fab T! I also love the description of the theatre/bookshop, it sounds like my kind of place! I think you were both very well restrained too with only 3 books between you! well done!
