Welcome to Samal Island. I say welcome because I own a house and lot here and this is my second residence.

Samal Island is now called Island Garden City of Samal. The City has three districts, Babak, Kaputian and Peaplata. The City proper is in Peaplata. Known for its riches in coral reef.

Coral Reef City

If you travel to this place by land, you start from Davao City, take a ferryboat to Babak the first district and there is only one main road going to Peaplata and Kaputian.

The picture that you have seen was taken at Kaputian at Barangay Kidodo wherein you can see the hind view Talicud Islam. It's part of Kaputian district and you have to take a banca or small boat to Sta. Cruz, Talicud. So many white beaches there and you can roam around the island by a motorcycle whish you can hire it in an hourly or daily basis. You ca criss-cross the whole island utilizing the circumferential road. Though its partly rough but you will enjoy.

I stayed at the Isla Catalina Beach Resort. There are so many white beaches in the area. If you love to stay on a secluded area free from pollution, noise, etc, that fits your desire. The biggest, longest and very widecave is found in that area. I have been exploring the place many times and you will enjoy viewing the wonders inside the cave.

Subterranean species are plenty inside the cave. Even at Samal Main Island, it was the first time in my life to have found a colony of Rover Crabs. It looks like a hermet crab but the size is tremendous. It could weigh about three kilos. The most is about two. It could crack a whole coconut fruit.

I could have so many things to tell but it may just be told in some other photos as well.

Enough for now and thank you for viewing.

ALex

Hawkeye, Your pictures have made me very interested in Catalina Beach Resort. I will be traveling to Samal in June and would like more info on that resort. Would you recommend it for a 3-4 day 'second honeymoon?'. Are there weblinks to more info? Jim
