After an uneventful but quick flight, we arrived nearly an hour early, we were off the plane and into the bowels of Suvarnabhumi terminal, a vast and over blown place but remarkably efficient with immigration and customs. Seeing the smokers cooped up in their tiny "smoking rooms" made you wonder why they did it, it looked so uncomfortable. We had a five hour wait until our connecting flight to Chiang Rai.

Firstly a coffee, then a freshen up before the waiting. We amused ourselves by watching the window cleaners, way above us on the terminal roof, washing the roof windows at quite an incredible and efficient pace. Watch out for them if you are there it is quite a sight! Superficially the terminal looks great, but when you look closer, there are lots of unfinished areas and dodgy finishings.

Thai Air Asia to Chiang Rai was just a normal low budget service, seats on a first on the plane basis and the off we go.

Arriving in Chiang Rai we were met with rain, so we grabbed our bags and a taxi and head off to our Hotel for a rest and then a walk into town. It's amazing how clean everywhere is. We buy an off the street pancake made with an egg and topped with sugar and condensed milk which is delicious. Back to the hotel for a quiet Singha beer in the lounge then tea and bed.
